A San Benito father is behind bars after he allegedly fell asleep while he was supposed to be watching two of his children.

San Benito police arrested 29-year-old Juan Antonio Villafranca on two counts of child endangerment on Thursday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that police received calls about a 4-year-old boy wandering the streets wearing only diapers on the 1600 block of West Business 77.

The callers got the boy to safety and the child lead police to a nearby mobile home.

The boy opened the door and police found a 3-month-old girl strapped inside a baby carrier in the living room area.

Officers found Villafranca asleep in another room where he told police he thought his wife had taken the children.

Villafranca’s wife told police that she had taken one of their other children to the doctor and had left their other kids with him.

The jailed father appeared before a San Benito municipal judge on Friday morning where he was issued $20,000 dollars in bonds.

Investigators said Villafranca had an outstanding warrant from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department at the time of his arrest.

Child Protective Services has been notified about the incident.
