The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man that washed up on South Padre Island on Saturday.
Chief Gus Reyna said they received the call about the body at about 2 p.m.
A bystander came across the washed up body just north of Beach Access 6, and immediately notified the Cameron County Precinct 1 Constable.
The constable then notified the sheriff’s office to lead the investigation, since it deals with a fatality.
Chief Reyna added that they have little information, but that an autopsy is underway to determine the cause of death.
He said the body belongs to a man in his mid-30’s, and had died within the past 24 hours.
Investigators have not determined the man’s identity.
Constables also added that Beach Access 6 remained open throughout the day.
Action 4 News will post more information as it becomes available.
