In remembrance of Child Passenger Safety Week, local certified technicians are offering free car seat inspections.

The Texas Child Restraint Law requires all children younger than 8-years-old, shorter than 4 ft 9 in. to be in some sort of child restraint in the vehicle.
But many times car seats are not installed properly.

That's why McAllen Fire Department and Harlingen police teamed up to make inspections in McAllen on Friday.

"If there are any need for corrections we will make those corrections and let the parents be aware," Sal Carmona with Harlingen police.

A new mother, Cristina Seal stopped by and brought her 9-day-old baby.

“Car safety is very important to us,” said Seal. “So we wanted to anything and everything to make sure she was safe."

Studies show about three out of every four child safety seats are not used correctly.

If you're not sure yours is, get an inspection.

Every car seat does expire after about 6 to 8 years so check your label if you aren't sure.

Another inspection will be held at the Harlingen Wal Mart from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
