Phone call threatening to 'blow up' UTB leads to Harlingen arrest

A Harlingen man is arrested after threatening to blow up the University of Texas at Brownsville.

He called Harlingen police at 2 a.m. on Sunday to say that he had a bomb and was going to “blow up” UTB.

Harlingen PD contacted university police to notify them.

Authorities were able to trace the phone call to the suspect’s apartment on Morgan Boulevard.

After getting an arrest warrant, law enforcement officials were able to go into the apartment and arrest the man at around 3 p.m.

The Texas Rangers, Harlingen police and University of Texas system law enforcement all participated with the arrest.

There are multiple apartments on Morgan Boulevard. At this time it is unknown which apartment complex he was in.

Action 4 News will provide more information as new details become known.
