Authorities are searching for an alleged Gulf Cartel bodyguard who is now considered a fugitive after skipping out on his trial in McAllen.

The cocaine trafficking trial for Edgar Hinojosa started before U.S. District Court Judge Michaela Alvarez last week.

Hinojosa was on trial for helping to move tons of cocaine from Brownsville to Houston.

The Rio Grande Valley man failed to show up for trial on Friday but the trial continued without him there.

Jurors met on Monday and found Hinojosa guilty of conspiracy and federal drug charges.

Federal prosecutors said Hinojosa went by the nickname “Ewok” and once worked as a bodyguard for slain Gulf Cartel leader Hector Manuel Sauceda- Gamboa.

Hinojosa had been out on bond during trial but is now considered a federal fugitive.

Anyone with information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact the FBI at (956) 546-6922.
