A Brownsville man is behind bars after he allegedly shot at a man he believed stole his car but ended up injuring a teenage boy.

The shooting happened on the 100 block of West St. Charles Street around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Brownsville police arrested 27-year-old Francisco Antonio Romero on an aggravated assault charge.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Romero accused a man of stealing his car and bragging about it to the neighborhood.

Romero allegedly fired at the auto theft suspect seven times but one of the bullets hit a 15-year-old boy in the leg.

The teenager was standing next to the man Romero believed stole his car.

The teen was taken to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville treatment of a non-life threatening injury.

Officers arrested Romero at the scene.

Romero appeared before a Brownsville municipal judge on Friday morning where he was issued a $100,000 dollar bond.

Investigators said the auto theft filed by Romero back on August 10th case remains under investigation.
