State budget cuts have placed some 63 jobs at a mental health center in Harlingen on the chopping block.
The decision still isn't 100 percent fixed but layoffs at the Rio Grande State Center are being discussed in Austin.
The Texas Legislature meets again in Austin in January.
Their goal is to set the state budget for the 2014 and 2015 fiscal years.
But state lawmakers are asking the Texas Department of State Health Services to cut 10 percent from hits budget.
The agency is looking for ways to make that happen.
A 1,500-page report outlines a number of proposals.
One of them is closing the South Texas Health Center Outpatient Clinic off Rangerville Road in Harlingen.
The clinic is part of the Rio Grande State Center, a state-funded mental health facility.
Some 63 full-time employees could be laid off or reassigned.
According to the report, the move would save $6.3 million dollars.
There has already been restructuring and downsizing at this facility within the last two years.
Harlingen city leaders are opposed to the proposal but the decision ultimately rests in the hands of state leaders in Austin.
