Tropical Storm Isaac is growing stronger in the Gulf of Mexico but also making an impact on coastal areas of the Rio Grande Valley.

The storm is almost the size of Texas and is expected to become hurricane before hitting Louisiana.

But it's already creating high, dangerous surf conditions along the Texas coast.

South Padre Island is some 700 miles away from New Orleans but Isaac’s effects are already being felt.

Both locals and tourists are loving it for the 10-foot waves and other optimal surfing conditions.

Two young surfers told Action 4 News that their family drove all the way from the Houston suburbs just to ride these waves.

South Padre Island and Cameron County officials are using their flag warning system to warn beachgoers about dangerous waves and tides.
