Two American government employees have been shot and wounded in an attack on their vehicle on a highway south of Mexico City.
A law enforcement, who spoke to the Associated Press, confirmed the shooting on the condition of anonymity.
Mexico’s El Universal newspaper reported that a Toyota truck with diplomatic license plates came under fire on the Mexico City-Cuernavaca highway on Friday morning.
El Universal reported that American citizens Jess Hoods Garner and Stan Dove Boss were wounded in the attack.
The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City has not issued a statement but the Associated Press confirmed that two U.S. government employees were injured in the attack.
The newspaper reported that the two Americans were being escorted by Mexican marines at the time of shooting and that there was a gun battle at the scene.
El Universal reported that the diplomatic vehicle received at least 30 impacts from bullets.
No suspects have been arrested or identified at this time but the shooting remains under investigation.
The shooting comes almost one and a half years after U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) Jaime Zapata was ambushed and killed in San Luis Potosi.
