Planned Parenthood provides services to over 52,000 women a year across the state of Texas. But that could all change—because some do not agree with Planned Parenthoods views on abortion.
“We feel like we're being discriminated against and that our freedom of speech is being denied."
Patricio Gonzalez is the CEO of Planned Parenthood of Hidalgo and Starr Counties. He told Action 4 News that abortion is legal and every woman should have the right to choose---however it is not something they do at their clinic.
We're being doubly picked on because we use the name 'Planned Parenthood,” Gonzalez explained. “We advocate for women's rights to have a safe and legal medical abortion."
Gonzalez said, by cutting the funding to Planned Parenthood, thousands of Texas women will be left to fend for themselves….
Many will be put at risk of losing health care services because it just will not be there anymore.
“Basic healthcare services.....such as wellness exams, pap smears, cancer screenings, and birth control, and other preventable healthcare services. They're going to put these women in jeopardy."
While Gonzalez does not know what the future may hold, he said one thing is certain—they will continue to help the women of Hidalgo and Starr Counties until they cannot anymore.
