Authorities believe a short circuit caused a fire at a prison south of the border in Ciudad Victoria.
The Tamaulipas Attorney General's Office (PGJE) confirmes that the fire at the CEDES state prison started just after 12 a.m. Saturday.
Soldiers with the Mexican army, state police and firefighters all responded to the scene.
Investigators reported that it appeares that a fire was started by a short-circuit in the carpentry workshop in the prison but was quickly contained.
PGJE officials reported there were no injuries but damages to the workshop and building.

VICTORIA, Tamaulipas.- La Secretaría de Seguridad Pública y la Procuraduría General de Justicia del Estado comunican que en los primeros minutos delsábado 18 de agosto, se registró un incendio en el interior de las instalaciones del Centro de Ejecución de Sanciones (CEDES) de esta ciudad capital con saldo de daños materiales.
Mediante el apoyo de elementos del Ejército Mexicano y la Policía Estatal fue reforzada la vigilancia exterior e interior y con el auxilio de personal de Protección Civil del Estado, logró sofocarse el incendio provocado por un corto circuito en el área de carpintería del módulo uno del CEDES.
El Agente del Ministerio Público en turno acudió al lugar, dando fe que de los hechos registrados, únicamente se produjeron daños materiales. La Dirección del CEDES tomó las medidas necesarias para restablecer la normalidad en el funcionamiento del penal.
