Sometimes the best man for the job is a woman.

After eight months of being vacant, the assistant port of entry director position for trade in Brownsville has now been filled.

Jan Clark has been on the job at the office for three weeks.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)  officials say she'll manage all the commerce coming in and out of the busy port by air, sea and rail.

According to CBP figures, between 30,000 to 40,000 railcars go across the border each year.

Clark comes to the Rio Grande Valley from Mobile, Alabama.

CBP officials say she was chosen because of her expertise in the trade field and her knowledge of the Brownsville area.

Clark began her career at the port of San Francisco.
