Edcouch police are hoping a new four-wheel drive Hummer will help them fight crime

Police Chief Eloy Cardenas recently his department recently acquired the military Hummer through a grant.

Cardenas said his officers end up in chases that start in the city end up in rural areas.

But some areas are just too rough for a police unit to go through.

Cardenas said but the Hummer can make it through just about anything.

The police chief said his department now handles calls for the Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District.

Police have also recently purchased a golf cart so they can start making rounds on campuses throughout the district.
