According to police, the victim was only trying to break up a fight outside his house, when one of the men pulled out a gun and started shooting.

It all happened outside of Cameron Park in Brownsville at around 6am Sunday morning.

Investigators say alcohol was involved when two men began to argue, then started fighting in the middle of Nannette Avenue.

A neighbor identified as 30-year-old Fulgencio de Leon stepped out of his home and tried to stop the fight.

But Sheriff Omar Lucio says at that point one of the men pulled out a handgun and shot de Leon six times.

Sheriff Lucio advised to be careful when acting as a peacemaker in dangerous situations.

Paramedics rushed de Leon to the hospital. He had injuries to his hand, legs, back, and buttocks.

Luckily, the bullets did not cause life threatening injuries.

De Leon is currently in the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Witnesses were not able to provide a description of the suspected gunman.

Investigators say both men fighting took off running after the shooting.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of the shooter, call Brownsville Crimestoppers at 546-TIPS.
