A convicted sex offender now living in Brownsville is back in custody after he allegedly confessed to several murders in Oregon back in the 1970s.
Brownsville police told Action 4 News that 63-year-old Jeffrey Cutlip is being held for questioning after calling police over the weekend.
During the Saturday phone call, Cutlip allegedly said he wanted to talk about several murders he committed in Portland, Oregon in the 1970s.
Detectives from the Portland Police Department have arrived in Brownsville where they are in process of interviewing Cutlip.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Cutlip confessed to taking part in at least four murders in and around the Portland area.
Cutlip told Brownsville police that guilt was his primary reason for coming forward.
Brownsville police arrested Cutlip for failing to register as a sex offender back in April.
Cutlip posted bond and was released from the Cameron County Jail back on June 7th but his name still does not appear on the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Sex Offender Registry.
A predatory sex offender notification from Oregon shows that Cutlip had been convicted for sodomy in Oregon.
The sex offender notification reports that his victim profile is adult women strangers and that he used threats or weapons to gain their compliance.
Cutlip's sentence in Oregon had ended back on September 14, 2011.
