The mercury continues to rise across the Rio Grande Valley and it’s only gonna get hotter this summer.

But for some Valley residents, staying cool is a  luxury they just can't afford.

But the Salvation Army of McAllen is distributing fans and air conditioning units to the elderly and needy families.

Salvation Army officials told Action 4 News that they are accepting A/C units, fans and monetary donations.

Families and individuals have to qualify to get assistance.

The Salvation Army is located off 1600 North 23rd Street in McAllen.

Anyone wishing to make donations or apply for assistance is asked to contact the Salvation Army (956) 682-1468.
