According to the Huffington Post, classroom sizes in the McAllen school district are alarmingly larger than average.

The article says that this past school year, teachers reported having as many as 50 students in their class room.

Public school expenses have risen within the past five years and education budgets have been slashed.

According to the National Education Association, there are as many school jobs now as there were in April 2005, but 300,000 more students.

Population growth also affects the amount of children enrolled in K-12 programs.

The article stressed the importance of early education and how if a child does not learn to read proficiently by the third grade, they are more likely to drop out later on in school.

The McAllen Independent School District provides a different number than the article however, showing their student/teacher ratio is 15:1.

-The district has 25,300 students enrolled.
