The big news on the fishing scene is that red snapper season in federal waters has been extended six days and now ends at midnight July 16.

The extension was granted because Tropical Storm Debby prevented boats from getting offshore when the storm was in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.

Red snapper fishing has been outstanding lately, with easy limits of quality fish being taken around structures in federal waters.

More good news greeted offshore anglers, as the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced the July 15 opening of the Gulf shrimping season.
