A Houston area murder suspect on the Texas Top 10 Most Wanted list has been caught working at a chemical plant south of the border in Matamoros.
Tamaulipas State Police told Action 4 News that officers arrsted 32-year-old Javier Cortez, Jr. late Tuesday night.
The Tango Blast gang member had been a fugitive on murder charges since April 2010.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials had placed on the state's Top 10 Most Wanted fugitives list and offered a $15,000 dollar reward for his capture.
Tamaulipas State Police reported that DPS officials alerted them that Cortez was living and working in Matamoros.
Mexican authorities arrested Cortez while he was leaving work at the Quimica Flour plant right off the Matamoros-Reynosa Highway around 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Murder
Cortez is one of two suspects accused in the botched April 2010 robbery where a man died after being shot inside his Houston area apartment.
Even though the victim had already been shot twice, Cortez allegedly over him and shot him nine more times.
Cortez and the accomplice reportedly went to a gentlemen's club to celebrate the robbery and murder.
Both Cortez and the other man attempted to rob a house in Pasadena where the accomplice was shot in the arm and arrested.
Cortez escaped arrest and remains at large to this day.
DPS officials announced that they are increasing a reward for 32-year-old Tango Blast gang member's capture to $15,000 dollars during the month of July.
Extradition
Tamaulipas State Police told Action 4 News that Cortez is being delivered to American authorities at Brownsville's B&M International Bridge on Friday afternoon.
Once in custody, Cortez is expected to be taken to the Cameron County Jail and later extradited back to Harris County.
