A San Benito man is behind bars after he allegedly hit a 12-year-old girl who tried to help her mother in a domestic disturbance.

San Benito police arrested 29-year-old Hugo Mario Salinas, Jr. early Thursday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that officers responded to a domestic disturbance off Wild Olive Drive around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police said attacked his 34-year-old girlfriend and punched her 12-year-old daughter when the girl tried to defend her mother.

Officers arrested Salinas for assault family violence and injury to a child charges as well as a probation violation for a past burglary charge.

Salinas appeared before a San Benito municipal judge where he was issued $15,000 dollars in bonds.
