A fire that destroyed the Linn-San Manuel Volunteer Fire Department last December has been ruled as arson.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies are now investigating the case and looking into the possibility of a misappropriation of funds.

Investigators believe the fire was started to destroy any paperwork that might've been kept inside the building.

Fire Chief Domingo Hinojosa told Action 4 News that he had no knowledge of the investigation.

Hinojosa said he’s hurt that someone would deliberately destroy all they've worked for over the years.
