Several representatives with NASA visited with students from different schools in McAllen on Tuesday.

It’s all part of a summer science camps grant to get students thinking about jobs in math, science and engineering.

More than 360 students are taking part in the summer program.

It’s designed not just to be fun but also to get them interested in careers in STEMS: science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

NASA education specialist Denise Coleman said camps are part of the agency’s “Summer Of Innovation” grants.

McAllen ISD said it’s the second of four years in the program.

The summer camps will continue all week long.

Students are expected to hold a rocket launching competition on Wednesday.
