Authorities are investigating the Wednesday evening death of a Brownsville bus driver who was killed by his own bus.
Brownsville police said 62-year-old Ernesto Rosales was killed in an accident at a city bus terminal off International Boulevard.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Rosales had just let all the passengers off a city bus and was in front of it when it started rolling forward.
Police said the bus fatally hit Rosales while he was trying to stop it.
Authorities plan to recreate the scene of the accident to learn more about how it could have happened.
Investigators said Rosales had been a city bus driver for just under one years time.
Brownsville City Manager Charlie Cabler was at the scene and issued a statement of condolences to Rosales’ family.
"This is a tragic accident, and the entire Brownsville family is deeply saddened by this incident,” Cabler said in the statement. Our thoughts and prayers are with the employee’s family."
