BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (AP) -- A second day of testimony is under way in the federal trial in Brownsville of a South Texas lawyer accused of giving payoffs to a crooked judge in return for favorable treatment.

The trial of Port Isabel lawyer Ray Marchan is the first to spring from a broad federal judicial corruption investigation.

Former State District Judge Abel C. Limas, who pleaded guilty last year to racketeering, could testify as a prosecution witness Wednesday.

Testimony on Tuesday illustrated how the federal corruption probe that began more than four years ago with Limas has expanded.

Marchan faces seven counts, including racketeering and conspiracy, and is accused of paying Limas bribes totaling more than $11,000 in 2008.
