A child molestation suspect remained at large for months but is now behind bars following a traffic stop for expired license plates.

La Feria police arrested 47-year-old Antonio Marroquin on an indecency with a child warrant on Sunday afternoon.

Police Chief Donato Garcia told Action 4 News that investigation started back in August 2011.

Chief Gracia said family members had asked Marroquin to babysit a then-13-year-old girl and her little sister.

The girl later made an outcry that Marroquin molested her during the incident.

Fugitive Status

Authorities had issued a warrant for second-degree felony indecency with a child shortly after but Marroquin remained at large.

Chief Garcia said a police officer pulled over a car driven by Marroquin for expired license plates on Sunday afternoon.

The officer arrested Marroquin once he learned his identity and that he was wanted for the crime.

Marroquin remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under a $35,000 dollar bond.

Court records show that Marroquin has a criminal history including DWI, forgery and theft going back to 1993.

Family Speaks

Marroquin's daughter Chelsea Gamez told Action 4 News that she believes the allegations against her father are false.

Gamez said the girl's version of the allegations to police do not match those she told to other family members.

Marroquin's family is scrambling to get the bail money to get him out of jail and clear his name.

Gamez said her father and mother including the teen and her little sister on a family outing to Schlitterbahn on South Padre Island on the day of alleged incident.

"This came out of nowhere," Gamez said.
