A Brownsville family is crying foul as they grieve the death of 42-year-old man.

The man's family believes a hit to the head, possibly with a hammer, caused the death of Rogelio Gonzalez.

It was supposed to be a typical Sunday morning for his mother Sonia Gonzalez.

She went to church and let her son sleep in, but when she returned home with barbacoa she made a gruesome discovery last Sunday.

The Gonzalez family made funeral arrangements on Tuesday.

Rogelio was Sonia Gonzalez’s only son.

She did not want to speak on camera but says she was the one who found her son lying in bed back on in a pool of blood inside his bedroom.

Authorities were called to investigate and the man rushed to the hospital.

Gonzalez was in a coma for about a week until he died.

There have been no arrests in this case leaving the family wondering why or how he died.

They said different sources have told them he may have been struck in the head with a hammer.

Brownsville Police Department spokesman J.J. Treviño spoke to Action 4 News about the incident.

"We currently have an investigation in regards to an incident that occurred about a week ago,” Treviño said. “At this point, it is still under investigation. They are going to wait for the results of the autopsy we don’t have the preliminaries yet so it's still pending.”

There will be a viewing tonight at Treviño's Funeral Home in Brownsville at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Gonzalez is survived by his mother sonia and two teen daughters.

Police said they are not ruling out the possibility of this being an accidental death.

But they are awaiting autopsy results to determine if there was blunt force trauma as the family claims.
