The Gold's Gym near Sunrise Mall in Brownsville has been evacuated after reports of smoke coming from the men's locker room.

It all happened on the 800 block of Sunrise Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Brownsville firefighters were called out to the gym after receiving reports of smoke coming from men's locker room.

Gym members had to be evacuated while firefighters searched the roof and inside the building for the source of the smoke.

Investigators believe the smoke may have been caused by an electrical or air conditioning problem prompting authorities shut down power to the building.

Authorities restored power to the building around 1 p.m. Saturday. The gym was reopened shortly after that.

Employees told Action 4 News that the smoke was caused by a burned out air conditioning unit.
