An Alton man accused of killing his wife in front of their daughter is behind bars after being arrested at the Progreso International Bridge.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) officers arrested 37-year-old Miguel Angel Garcia at the bridge late Wednesday night.

Garica is accused of shooting and killing his 37-year-old wife Nora Lee Garcia.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies reported that the couple got into a heated argument late Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators said Nora Lee Garcia was fleeing when Miguel Angel Garcia opened fire with a shotgun and fatally shooting her in the back.

It's not clear why Garcia fled to Progreso or why he decided to come back.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said Garcia is being held for questioning at the Hidalgo County.

Sheriff Treviño said Garcia is expected to be arraigned some time in the next two days.
