Authorities are investigating why a man led police on a chase following a Monday morning traffic stop.

Donna Police Chief Ram De Leon spoke to Action 4 News about the incident.

Chief De Leon said a police officer tried to stop the man's vehicle for a traffic violation but the driver sped off.

The driver ended up ditching the car along a corn field on south FM 493 and ran.

Donna police called Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies and a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter to help.

They ended up finding the suspect and arrested him.

Chief De Leon said they did not find drugs in the vehicle but believe the man fled because he did not have a driver's license.
