BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (AP) -- A South Texas man who killed an 82-year-old woman during a home invasion has been sentenced to life in prison.

A judge in Brownsville also sentenced 35-year-old Miguel Angel Trejo of Harlingen to 20 years in prison for raping a different woman.

The sentences, reached as part of plea agreements, will run concurrently.

Trejo last week pleaded guilty to capital murder in the July death of Flavia Padron Avaiza.

Investigators say the victim was strangled and a diamond ring was stolen from her Harlingen residence.

Trejo also pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault for the January 2011 rape of a 62-year-old Harlingen woman.

Trejo was sentenced Monday.
