A Harlingen woman was charged with four counts of injury to a child after her step-grandchildren were found physically abused.

An initial outcry from a Bowie Elementary School teacher led Child Protective Services (CPS) to look into the possible abuse of a 5-year-old boy.

CPS filed a report to Harlingen police that the boy had un-explained bruises on his head, arms, back and legs.

The boy was sent to Valley Baptist Medical Center for a check-up examination.

Detectives decided that Patricia Fernandez Solano was the person of interest in the case and went to the family’s house to speak with her.

Once there, detectives discovered that the victim’s two sisters and one brother all showed signs of abuse as well.

The 6-year-old,  3-year-old and 2-year-old siblings had scratches, marks and bruises all over their bodies.

Solano was charged with third degree felony injury to a child.

The 39-year-old's bond was set at $10,000 for each count of abuse and totaled $40,000.
