Tacos of your choice and other Mexican goodies are regulars on the menu at El Ultimo Taco located on Highway 77 in Brownsville.
That's what keeps bringing customers back to the restaurant at all hours of the day and night.
Manager Armando Curiel said workers were busy serving up tacos at about 2:15 a.m. Thursday morning, when a truck came crashing through the building.
"The truck jumped a rod, a big iron rod,” said Curiel, “Then it hit the light post, and it ended up inside the restaurant."
Brownsville police said it was 24-year-old Luis Alberto Gonzalez who was behind the wheel.
U.S. Border Patrol officials confirmed Gonzalez is a Border Patrol agent.
Police have not determined how he lost control of the truck, but believe he had been drinking.
"The officers noticed that he was apparently somewhat intoxicated,” Spokesperson J.J. Treviño said. “Has taken into a local hospital for a mandatory blood specimen."
Curiel said that in 10 years of business, this has been the second big scare.
The first back in 2005, is still evident on the ceiling - a tiny bullet hole is the reminder of a robbery when workers were held at gunpoint.
Now, a missing wall and no lights, is another incident restaurant workers will have to overcome.
"It sounded like a bomb had exploded,” Curiel said. “It was a loud bang – an ugly bang. It shook the entire restaurant and we were all scared."
