Two men have been reported missing after a shrimping boat, that left from Brownsville, never made it to its next port in Tampico, Mexico.

The Coast Guard have been on the search for Mauel Gallardo Castillo and Faulsto Gomez Jr. since Saturday.

An agent from the boat, El Abuelo, contacted the Coast Guard Sector of Corpus Christi to inform them about the missing men.

They had left Brownsville Thursday and were supposed to have arrived at port on Friday.

An HU-25 Falcon fixed-wing aircraft was launched to search the Gulf of Mexico for the two men.

"The first phase of any search is information gathering," said Petty Officer 1st Class Shawn McGivern, command duty officer for the 8th Coast Guard District command center. "This helps us direct our efforts, our personnel and assets, so that we're able to use them to the best of their abilities. In this case, we were pretty

fortunate, because the men we're searching for filed a float plan. This allows us a valuable piece of information that takes a lot of the guess work out of this phase of the search."

An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast was issued for mariners to keep a look out in the area.
