A scheme to steal electronics at the Target store in Harlingen ended with a San Benito man and woman behind bars.

Harlingen police arrested 21-year-old Joe Brendon Ortega and 20-year-old Jennifer Marie Torres on Thursday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the two are accused of stealing electronics and other items from the store.

Police said Torres would select and hand items to Ortega and he would use a knife to cut open the boxes.

Store employees confronted Ortega outside the store and found him with a digital camera, an MP3 player, a memory card, sunglasses and other items worth $294 dollars.

Police tracked down Torres and arrested her for helping him steal the items.

Both of them faced a Harlingen municipal judge on Friday morning where they were issued $1,000 dollar bonds
