Authorities are investigating two drug chases that ended within minutes of each other in Mission late Thursday afternoon.

The first chase started in western Hidalgo County and ended off Expressway 83 and Conway Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The second chase happened off Expressway 83 and Inspiration Road just a few minutes later.

Mission police said marijuana bundles were seized during first chase and that it’s being investigated by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

The second incident is being investigated by the Mission Police Department.

Mission Police Cpl. Manuel Casas spoke to Action 4 News about the second chase.

Casas said police received a report about a man in an SUV picking up bundles on the side of Inspiration Road.

Police stopped the SUV and found the bundles in the back of the SUV.

The man claimed he found them and was going to take them home and give them to police.

Casas said people should not remove bundles of illegal drugs if they find them.

He said police consider that tampering with evidence.

Casas said the proper thing is to call police and notify them about any discovery of illegal activity or items.

The second chase happened right as Action 4 News was broadcasting live for a special promotion outside a convenience store off Inspiration Road and Expressway 83.

The license plates to the SUV in the Inspiration Road incident came back registered Ruperto Gonzalez of Ramsey Drive in Mission.
