Sonic on 203 North Westgate is a Low Performer on Food 4 Thought for the 5th time.

“Well, It makes me not want to come back,” said a grandmother, who did not want to be identified by name. “It’s because I expect good standards for good food.”

Dirty dining at Sonic dates back to 2005 on the program.

The Food Patrol left a message with Sonic's “crisis communications” line in the afternoon on Wednesday.

Despite a recording that indicates messages would be returned in about 30 minutes, the Food Patrol wasn’t contacted by news time.

The Food Patrol wants to know why the Sonic on Westgate Drive can't keep it clean.

Here’s a breakdown of previous reports about Sonic on Food 4 Thought:

2005-- 24 demerits; a broken fridge.

2007-- 39 demerits; mold in the ice machine

2008—23 demerits; gnats and roaches

2010—30 demerits; ants and rodent contamination

2012—26 demerits; insect contamination.

Kitchen cops said they found gnats on fruit and syrup used for drinks.

Diana’s Restaurant on 500 West Railroad in Weslaco was another low performer.

The restaurant received 26 demerits for off temperature meat, no hairnets, missing labels and a cross contamination with meat.

The business happened to be closed when the Food Patrol came around.

The City of Progreso is on the map on Food 4 Thought with its first Top Performer of 2012.
 
JR’s Café on 1002 North Business FM 1015 scored zero demerits on a health report.

The achievement earned JR’s their first Top Performer sticker from the Food Patrol.

The restaurant is family run.

Minerva Avalos says everyone takes great pride in what comes out of the kitchen.

“Not every restaurant has that,” said Avalos. “So we feel very proud to have it [sticker].
