Harlingen man jailed for inappropriate relationship with runaway girl

A Harlingen man is behind bars after he allegedly was having an inappropriate relationship with a teenage runaway girl.

Harlingen police arrested 23-year-old Marcelo Davila over the weekend.

Investigators told Action 4 News that police officers went to look for a 16-year-old runaway a home on Louisiana Street on Friday morning.

Davila told police the girl was not at the house but Davila’s mother let police search the home.

Officers found the girl and later learned she had been involved in an inappropriate sexual relationship with Davila.

Police charged Davila with sexual assault and harboring a runaway.

Davila appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Saturday morning.

The 23-year-old suspect remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under $53,000 dollars in bonds.
