A Harlingen man was arrested on Thursday for the physical abuse to his girlfriend’s 7-month-old son.
The baby was sent to Harlingen Medical Center for a fracture in his right arm and a fractured right clavicle.
The hospital notified Harlingen police about the child’s injuries and officers took the suspect, Nathaniel Jacob Silva, into custody after discovering he had several warrants out already for his arrest.
Detectives interviewed the 21-year-old mother and her boyfriend about the baby’s condition and Silva admitted to engaging in reckless behavior which injured the child.
The incident happened at the family’s home on La Paloma Avenue Wednesday morning.
Silva was arraigned and charged with injury to a child.
The 24-year-old’s bond was set at $90,000 and he was also fined over $600 for the outstanding warrants.
The baby is recovering from his injuries.
