Cameron County officials spent late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning closing down about one dozen 8-liner video arcades.

Officials told Action 4 News that the arcades were shut down for operation without proper permits or violations of permits.

Some of the arcades were shut down a few weeks ago but reopened their doors.

Investigators believe that illegal gambling may have been taking place at the arcades.

Employees at one casino fled the scene and left bundles of cash behind as authorities entered the building.

Humberto Barrera with the Cameron County Emergency Management Office said investigators are trying to determine who the owners are.
