A rollover accident involving a vehicle carrying a load of illegal immigrants has ended with one dead and at least nine others injured.
It all happened off Expressway 83 and FM 2221 just west of La Joya around 10 a.m. Monday.
Investigators told Action 4 News that they are working to clear a rollover accident involving a van at that location.
It's not clear what cause the rollover accident but investigators confirmed one person was killed.
Several illegal immigrants fled the van but many of them were injured and found nearby.
At least nine people have been carried out on stretchers and taken aboard different ambulances.
Investigators believe there were 15 to 20 people crammed into the van at the time of the accident.
Witnesses and victims told authorities that the driver fled the scene.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) State Trooper Johnny Hernandez said authorities are still trying to identify and locate the driver.
