Police and fire crews in the city of Hidalgo were forced to go above and beyond as hail and winds ripped through their cit.
They responded to emergency situations while dealing with their own.
The Hidalgo Police and Fire Department building’s sustained extensive damage.
Watching as the roof of the old city hall building caved in, officers had to step in and help meticulously bring it down.
“It was accumulating water and it was starting to bowl,” said Hidalgo Police Department Captain Robert Vela. “and seemed as if it was going to fall down.”
Officers had to be vigilant about not only attending to safety and emergency calls, but to the building they report to everyday.
“This was basically one heck of a night.” said Vela.
Patchwork began on the roof Friday Vela said to prevent further damage in case they experience more rain.
Vela told Action 4 News he was happy enough that the building was still able to stand.
Despite the damage, no injuries or deaths were reported.
Captain vela said he can't even begin to imagine how much it will cost to repair the entire roof but for now they are doing patch work to prevent further damage if it rains again.
