Up to 22,000 people were without power in the Rio Grande Valley during an overnight storm, according to AEP Texas spokesman Frank Espinoza.

That number was significantly reduced Friday morning but has risen and fallen several times.

For example, around 5:30 a.m. the AEP Texas web site reported 5,600 people without power in Hidalgo County.

An hour later the web site reported about 5,900 people without power in Hidalgo County.

As of 8:30 a.m. in Hidalgo County, about 7,800 customers were reported to be without power.

Cameron County numbers remained consistent with over 100 customers without power around 5:30 a.m.

As of 8:30 a.m. 110 customers in Cameron County were reported to be without power.

Espinoza said AEP Texas crews will not stop work until all power is restored.

He urged anyone with a power outage to report it.
