A Santa Rosa man is behind bars after he allegedly took a woman and a 1-year-old baby along for a wild ride during a beer run.

Harlingen police arrested 24-year-old Ramiro Gonzalez, Jr. on multiple charges on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Gonzalez stole beer from a Stripes convenience store at 1560 N. 77 Sunshine Strip.

Gonzalez was behind the wheel of a silver Toyota Camry and fleeing the scene when he allegedly hit another car.

Witnesses told police that they saw Gonzalez speeding and running through stop signs.

Investigators said Gonzalez caused another accident off Godwin and Hoening Roads just outside Harlingen city limits.

Officers discovered that Gonzalez had a 19-year-old woman and a 1-year-old child as passengers in his car.

Gonzalez allegedly spit on a Harlingen police officer’s face while being arrested.

Officers charged Gonzalez with child endangerment, harassment of a public servant and the accident involving damage.

Gonzalez appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Wednesday where he was issued $78,000 dollars in bonds.
