A Brownsville Rivera High School student, killed in a car crash in Matamoros, was laid to rest Wednesday afternoon.
Family, friends and coaches wore jerseys with Juvenal Torres' nickname and number in memory of the teen.
Hundreds of students showed up in Brownsville to pay their final respects to Juvenal Torres or as they knew him "Juvy”.
Friends close to him say he left them too young and that life will miss out on a great person.
Gilbert Santos and Robby Rivera, who grew up with Juvenal "Juvy" Torres, said it was hard for them to accept they were attending their friend's funeral Wednesday.
"I couldn't believe it,” said Santos. “Still I don't believe it.”
"You don’t want to process it,” said Rivera. “Your mind doesn’t want to process it.”
It was a full house at Christ Church of the Valley in Brownsville as family, Rivera High School students, football players, teachers and coaches from around the valley gathered for a final good bye to Torres.
Authorities there told Action 4 News that the teen driver Juvenal was with was speeding when he lost control and crashed into a concrete post five blocks south of the Brownsville & Matamoros International Bridge.
These loving friends said they want their life-long friend to be remembered for the person he was in life.
"it's real hard to believe especially because it was him, he was an amazing person, he had a big heart, gave his best in all that he did, never backed down from a challenge,” said Santos. “He was just “Juvy” and he was always smiling always positive….If you were down he'd go try and make you happy.”
The procession passed by Rivera High School where students there waited outside to pay their respects to Juvenal Torres.
It then proceeded to Guillen Cemetery where he laid to rest.
Relatives have set up an account to help Juvenal’s family with expenses from the funeral.
