Authorities report that a large gas leak south of the border in Reynosa is under control but it caused a massive traffic jam on one the city's busiest roads.

It all happened in the Jarachina Norte neighborhood off the "libramiento" highway around 6 p.m. Monday.

The incident brought traffic to a standstill on the city's southwest side near the Mi Tienda supermarket.

Authorities shut down roads in the the area while officials tracked down the gas leak.

Reynosa residents stuck in traffic posted updates and photos to the the social media network Twitter.

A cause of the leak has not been determined but firefighters told Action 4 News it was located and under control shortly after 7 p.m. Monday.

Firefighters are asking residents in the area to open their doors and windows to allow the gas to escape and fresh air to circulate inside their homes.

Residents are also being asked not to use light switches for a little while longer.
