Edcouch police arrested Elijah Salazer, an admitted gang member, after he drove erratically through an Edcouch neighborhood in the early morning hours.

The chief said concerned citizens called police because they were worried.

When police arrived, Cardenas said Salazar became aggressive and did not want to listen to the officers.

That’s when, Cardenas said, Salazar jumped out of his vehicle and started to struggle with the officers---biting one on the forearm.

"Upon investigating who this individual was we learned this guy was, not only wanted, but was trying to run from us for being a wanted fugitive," Cardenas explained.

Edcouch police told Action 4 News they will not take any chances with Elijah Salazar.

Three officers escorted Salazar into an Edcouch courtroom to face a judge early Thursday afternoon.

Salazar was charged with aggravated assault on a public servant, resisting arrest, and possession of marijuana.
