The family of slain ICE agent Jaime Zapata is considering filing a lawsuit to get answers about their son’s death in Mexico.

Attorney Trey Mendez told Action 4 News that the family of Jaime Zapata began the process about a year ago.

The family filed a Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) request with several government agencies about their son’s death.

Those requests were denied but now the family is considering a lawsuit in order to get the answers they want.

Zapata was gunned down on a Mexican highway while on assignment there.

Many questions still linger for the Zapata family, like who ordered agent Zapata and his partner to take that road.

Agent Victor Avila survived but was injured in the attack by Zetas drug cartel gunmen.

The family wants to know was there anything wrong with the SUV the agents were in and were any of the weapons used in the deadly attack part of “Operation Fast & Furious.”

Martinez said the request for these answers with agencies like the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FBI, ICE and ATF were all denied.

An appeal was also turned also denied, because the agencies say the case is still under investigation.

Martinez said at this point, the only alternative might be to file a lawsuit to get the information.
