A Mission Veterans High School student remains in recovery after being hit in the head with a shotput.

The male teen was hit on Tuesday during track practice at the high school.

Misison CISD Director of Public Relations Craig Verley said district officials are investigating how this happened.

He was sent to a local hopital's Intensive Care Unit for treatment of injuries.

Verley said the school’s immediate concern is for the welfare of the student and the district is taking immediate actions to avoid similar incidents in the future.
