Authorities placed two San Benito schools under lockdown following two separate incidents.

The first lockdown happened at the Valley Memorial Academy off Williams Road shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday.

San Benito CISD officials told Action 4 News that Border Patrol agents were chasing a suspect nearby.

School district officials put the school under a “Code Red” lockdown as a precaution but it was lifted after 20 minutes time.

Border Patrol officials said it all started when a male driver didn't pull over for agents from their Harlingen station.

The driver and a passenger bailed out and fled in the brush prompting the agents to notify the school district.

Border Patrols agents caught the person they believe who was the driver but the second person remains at large.

Authorities remained in the area searching for the second suspect as of 1 p.m. Thursday.

Booth Elementary School

San Benito CISD officials said Booth Elementary School was also placed under lockdown on Thursday morning due to reports of gunfire.

Officials reported that "suspicious sounds" were reported off neaby Zaragosa and Corral Streets.

The lockdown at lasted 15 minutes while school district and city police investigated.

San Benito CISD Spokeswoman Celia Longoria said students and staff at both campuses were safe and secure while authorities investigated both incidents.

Longoria said that school personnel took immediate action to secure each individual campus during both incidents.

Action 4 News will provide more information as it becomes available.
