The warden of the East Hidalgo Detention Center is now the focus of a federal inquiry.

Officials with the private company that owns the jail confirms that Warden Elberto Bravo is on paid administrative leave since late last week.

“The U.S. Marshals have a federal inquiry, so it’s standard procedure to place an employee on leave,” said LCS Correction Services Spokesman Richard Harbison.

Harbison told Action 4 News that the company placed Bravo on paid administrative leave last Thursday or Friday but could not elaborate on why Bravo is at the center of a federal probe.

Action 4 News called the U.S. Marshals Service, referred questions to the U.S. Attorney General’s Office in Houston.

Federal prosecutors are not commenting about the investigation at this time.
